The German Shepherd Dog:
"The breed that deserves admiration" The German
Shepherd Dog is the most popular breed in the whole world. The GSD was developed
at the end of the nineteenth century, in 1899. The "Father of the German
Shepherd", Calvary Captain Max Von Stephanotis, endeavored to bring in the
standardization of sheepdogs in Germany. The primary function and vocation of
the GSD, was foremost the guarding of flocks of sheep. The decrease in the number
of flocks and the further development of the breed, led the breeder to find other
uses for the GSD. The German Shepherd Dog has great physical &
moral qualities. Such as: strength, resistance to bad weather &
climate variations, an extraordinary sense of smell, endless courage, psychological
stability, willingness to work, attention & easy to command. These qualities
enabled the GSD to quickly become a prominent working dog. The GSD is ideal for
professionals and ameauturs for his excellent nature and morphology.
Presently the GSD is utilized by both the Military and Police Departments
for tracking, defense work and special work. Searching for drugs, explosives
and missing persons. Dogs are a valuable tool in emergency rescue teams.
